How to Calculate the Fitrah Zakat
Nisab of Fitrah Zakat
Nisab of Fitrah Zakat per person is one Sa'a according to the announcement of the Office of the Chularajmontri, one Sa'a equals 2.7 kilograms, which may be rice or sticky rice depending on the staple food consumed. Alternatively, it can be calculated at 3 kilograms to provide an additional buffer of 300 grams, following the opinions of Shaikh Ibn Baz and Shaikh Al-Uthaymeen.
Payment Period
Fitrah Zakat can be paid from the 1st day of Ramadan until the 1st day of Shawwal, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. The most virtuous time is the period after the Subhi prayer but before the Eid al-Fitr prayer begins. However, those who are concerned about being unable to pay on time or wish to pay in advance may do so from the first day of Ramadan.
Calculate Fitrah Zakat via Zakatthailand.com
The calculation is based on the price of rice per kilogram that you actually consume, as shown in the following examples:
White Rice: If you consume white rice at 20 baht per kilogram and select 3 kilograms for a family of 6, the total Fitrah Zakat for your family is 360 Baht.
Jasmine Rice: If you consume jasmine rice at 40 baht per kilogram and select 3 kilograms for a family of 6, the total Fitrah Zakat for your family is 720 Baht.
Basmati Rice: If you consume basmati rice at 100 baht per kilogram and select 3 kilograms for a family of 6, the total Fitrah Zakat for your family is 1,800 Baht. You can pay it directly via zakatthailand.com.
Important Caution
You should not pay at a price lower than the price of rice you actually consume, as this would constitute incomplete payment of Zakat. However, you may pay at a price higher than what you actually consume. For example, if you eat rice at 33 Baht per kilogram but wish to achieve greater purity and cleanliness, you may pay at 35 Baht per kilogram instead. For this reason, the amount of Fitrah Zakat varies from one family to another, depending primarily on the quality and price of the rice consumed in each household.
